Designed to make a
difference
SACHS motorsport clutches from ZF Race Engineering have delivered front-running performance in international racing for decades - always pushing development and redefining what is possible. From the lightest Formula 1 racing clutch to proven multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally, ZF Motorsport technology drives championship-winning cars worldwide. At the same time, SACHS has long been an OE supplier of organic clutches to leading car makers - real-world know-how that flows into every racing clutch system.
SACHS Racing Clutch
RCS 2/184 O7.8
Organic 7.8 mm, rigid design
The twin-disc SACHS RCS 2/184 with 7.8 mm organic friction material delivers long-term durability and excellent modulation. The organic lining engages smoothly and predictably, reducing driveline shock and providing a calm, repeatable pedal feel - ideal for slalom, rally and demanding track-day cars.
The increased lining thickness adds wear reserve and stabilizes the bite point across repeated temperature and load cycles within the organic operating window. In this configuration up to 519 Nm of engine torque is achievable. The forged high-strength aluminium clutch housing combines low weight with high stiffness and supports efficient heat dissipation for consistent conditions.
Pressure and intermediate plates are supplied exclusively in high-strength steel. Compared with cast iron, steel resists mechanical and thermal peaks better and is fully start-proof - ideal for standing starts, intensive pit-stop cycles and repeated full-load operation.

Advantages
Easy on the transmission
Soft clutch engagement
Low wear on the flywheel friction surface
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch housing
The SACHS RCS 184 clutch housing is made from forged high-strength aluminium and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimum weight. Its specific geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and keeps the clutch pack within a stable temperature window.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminium surface treatment. This full-area hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and supports long service life.
Friction lining - organic
Organic lining maximises driveability: it builds grip progressively, allows fine modulation and reduces NVH (noise/vibration/harshness). The result is a calm, repeatable bite point with precise slip control - ideal for clean launches, traction out of slow corners and consistent lap times.
The softer, fibre-reinforced matrix reduces shock loads in the driveline. Gearbox, differential and joints are protected, tyres are stressed less. Within the intended temperature window the friction coefficient remains stable, wear is distributed evenly and the pedal characteristic stays consistent over many cycles - ideal for track days, club sport and endurance where control matters more than maximum launch aggression.
SACHS RCS hub
SACHS RCS 2/184 O7.8 clutches are available with different hub splines precisely matched to the gearbox input shaft. This ensures perfect fit, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in hard racing use.
Hubs are offered in several lengths (short, medium, long) to match the available installation space and ensure correct actuation. The modular RCS 200 system enables a tailored racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal capacity and service life. Standard configuration for RCS 2/184 (unless specified otherwise): hub length long-long.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
