Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Motorsport Clutch
for LMP3 Gen 2
RCS 4/140 S3.4 - Sintered Metal 3.4 mm
Designed for second-generation LMP3 cars: the four-plate SACHS RCS 4/140 S3.4 from ZF Motorsport uses the compact 140 mm friction diameter for low moment of inertia and short shift windows. This supports rapid rev-matching, precise pit-lane modulation and repeatable launches – perfect for the tight packaging requirements of P3 prototypes.
The 3.4 mm sintered lining hits the technical sweet spot between agility and service life: more heat capacity and wear reserve than 2.6 mm stacks, while enabling faster temperature stabilization and lower rotating mass than 5.2 mm pad designs. The bite point remains stable over long stints and the plates disengage cleanly – ideal for the mix of sprint sections, safety-car phases and frequent pit stops in the LMP3 environment.
The four-plate architecture distributes friction work and temperature across multiple contact surfaces, increasing torque capacity with a slim overall height. A release force of 4,200 N delivers a well-defined pedal feel, while the forged aluminum housing combines high stiffness with a compact envelope. Pressure and intermediate plates made of high-strength steel ensure launch and endurance durability in demanding LMP3 use.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch Housing
The RCS-140 clutch housing is made of high-strength forged aluminum and is designed for maximum stiffness with minimal installation space. The housing geometry promotes efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack’s temperature window in the LMP3 setup. A wear-resistant hard coating reduces friction and fit wear and increases service life.
Friction Lining
Sintered-metal clutch plates provide high temperature resistance, stable friction levels and fade resistance. The 3.4 mm lining thickness offers a balanced compromise of thermal reserve, durability and low rotating mass – optimal for frequent load changes, defined launches and short slip phases in the pit lane.
Hub Profile
The RCS 4/140 S3.4 is supplied with a matching hub spline for the respective gearbox input shaft in the LMP3 powertrain. High fit accuracy ensures reliable torque transmission and durability.
