Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS racing clutch
RCS 3/184 S5.2
Sintered metallic 5.2 mm, rigid design
The triple-plate SACHS RCS 3/184 racing clutch from ZF Motorsport delivers high continuous load capacity, precise modulation and consistent lap times. The forged aluminum clutch cover combines low weight with high stiffness and a stable thermal window - ideal for sprint, rally, time attack and demanding track day setups.
The 184 mm diameter hits the sweet spot between compact package, low rotating mass and sufficient friction area. This configuration uses 5.2 mm sintered pads: lower moment of inertia, faster rpm matching and a biting response for short shift windows, tight circuits and repeated load changes. With three friction discs, the effective friction area increases significantly, which noticeably improves thermal stability and torque reserve. Compared with 7.8 mm sinter pads, 5.2 mm pads offer less lining mass but lower thermal inertia, faster temperature reset and a more agile response. The 3/184-5.2 combination therefore provides a dynamic, sprint-focused setup with finely controllable, repeatable torque transfer.
Pressure and intermediate plates are manufactured in high-strength steel. Steel withstands mechanical and thermal peaks markedly better than cast materials and is fully start-proof - suitable for standing starts, tough pit stop cycles and repeated full-load use.

Advantages
High wear volume
High temperature resistance
Long operational life
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch cover (housing)
The SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover from ZF Motorsport is made from high-strength forged aluminum and is engineered for maximum stiffness at minimal weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat rejection and stabilizes the temperature window of the clutch pack.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and ensures long service life.
Friction lining - sintered metallic
The 5.2 mm sinter pad discs of the SACHS RCS 3/184 use fine-grained sintered metallic material with high compressive strength and a stable coefficient of friction across a wide temperature range. In the triple-plate configuration, the friction work is distributed across three contact pairs - surface pressure and local hot spots decrease, and the friction level remains consistent even at high disc temperatures.
The sintered metallic lining delivers a very direct response: a dry, immediate friction build-up with a clearly defined clutch bite at race start.
SACHS RCS hub
The SACHS RCS 3/184 S5.2 racing clutches from ZF Motorsport are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures the highest fit accuracy, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in hard racing use.
In addition, hubs are available in various length options (short, medium, long). This allows optimal adaptation of the clutch to the available installation space and ensures correct actuation. The modular RCS 184 system from ZF Motorsport enables an individually tuned racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal robustness and service life. Standard configuration of the RCS 3/184 clutch (unless otherwise specified): hub length long-extra short-long.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
