Sintered metallic 2,6 mm, rigid version

The twin-plate SACHS RCS 2/184 racing clutch with 2,6 mm sintered metallic lining from ZF Motorsport combines high torque capacity with very low rotating inertia. Two friction discs deliver strong torque transfer at the same clamp load and friction coefficient, while the thin lining enables direct response and short reaction times. Ideal for powerful touring cars, rally as well as circuit and time-attack use where precise modulation and repeatability are critical.

The sintered metallic friction material remains stable at speed and within the relevant operating window, ensuring a clearly defined, quick engagement. The 2,6 mm design lowers the clutch pack’s moment of inertia - the engine revs up more freely, the pressure point stays precise and repeatable. At the same time, the twin-plate configuration spreads the friction work over two contact surfaces, reducing specific surface pressure and smoothing temperature peaks.

This setup achieves up to 1.308 Nm maximum engine torque and, together with a stiff clutch cover (housing) plus pressure and intermediate plates made of high-strength steel, forms a durable, repeatable system for dedicated motorsport operation.

One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.

The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.

Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.



Faster Acceleration

If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.

As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch cover (housing)

The SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover from ZF Motorsport is made of high-strength forged aluminum and is engineered for maximum stiffness at minimal weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack’s temperature window.

A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and ensures long service life.

Clutch lining - sintered metallic

The RCS 2/184 uses fused-on 2,6 mm sintered metallic linings: the friction lining is bonded directly to the carrier plate (no separate pads). This reduces part count and mass, increases stiffness of the friction pair and minimizes lining compressibility. The result is a very precise bite point, short response times and a clearly defined engagement.

The small lining thickness lowers the rotating moment of inertia of the clutch pack; the engine revs more freely and load changes are executed more spontaneously. Direct heat transfer into the carrier plate dissipates friction heat quickly, improving repeatability in launch sequences.

SACHS RCS hub

The SACHS RCS 2/184 S2.6 racing clutches from ZF Motorsport are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures highest fit accuracy, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in demanding motorsport use.

In addition, hubs are available in various length options (short, medium, long). This allows the clutch to be matched to the available installation space and to ensure correct actuation. The modular RCS 184 system from ZF Motorsport enables an individually tuned racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal stability and service life. Standard configuration of the RCS 2/184 clutch (unless specified otherwise): hub length long-long.

Installation instructions:

As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
