difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Motorsport Clutch
for Porsche 997 GT3 R
RCS 3/140 S3.4 - Sintered Metal 3.4 mm
Developed for demanding GT programs: the triple-plate SACHS RCS 3/140 S3.4, with its 140 mm friction diameter, fits perfectly into the limited installation space of the Porsche 997 GT3 R as well as the 997 GT3 Cup. The low moment of inertia supports rapid rev-matching, short shift windows and sensitive control during launch and upshifts.
The 3.4 mm sintered lining provides a robust heat and wear buffer without adding unnecessary mass. Compared with 2.6 mm setups it offers greater thermal headroom and service life; versus 5.2 mm pad versions the assembly stays more agile with faster temperature stabilization. As a result, the bite point remains consistent over long stints, disengagement is clean and launches are repeatable – exactly right for sprint and endurance runs in the 997 GT3 R and GT3 Cup.
The forged aluminum housing combines high stiffness with a compact overall height. Pressure and intermediate plates made of high-strength steel ensure launch and endurance strength. The resulting pedal feel is clear and easily metered – ideal for precise, repeatable shifts in one-make cup and GT3 operation.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch Housing
The RCS-140 housing is made of high-strength forged aluminum and is designed for maximum stiffness with minimal installation space. The geometry promotes heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack’s temperature window in the 997 GT3 R and GT3 Cup. A wear-resistant hard coating reduces friction and fit wear and increases service life.
Friction Lining – Sintered Metal
Sintered metal delivers high temperature resistance, stable friction coefficients and fade resistance in dry high-load applications. The 3.4 mm thickness provides a balanced mix of thermal buffer, durability and low rotating mass – ideal for frequent load changes, pit stop cycles and repeated starts in GT3 and Cup operation.
Hub Profile
The RCS 3/140 S3.4 is supplied with a matching hub spline for the Porsche 997 GT3 gearbox input shaft. High fit accuracy ensures reliable power transmission and maximum durability.
