Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS racing clutch
for Aston Martin Vulcan V12
RCS 4/140 S3.4 sintered metallic 3.4 mm
Vehicle-specific setup for the Aston Martin Vulcan V12 (model years 2015-2016): the four-disc SACHS RCS 4/140 S3.4 racing clutch uses the 140 mm friction diameter for a clearly reduced moment of inertia and short shift windows - ideal for the Vulcan's high-rev character and the tight packaging of a pure track car.
The 3.4 mm sintered metallic lining hits the sweet spot: more heat capacity and wear reserve than 2.6 mm designs, while more agile and faster to thermally stabilize than 5.2 mm linings. Result: repeatable engagement, a stable bite point, and precise modulation - even at elevated disc temperatures in the Vulcan V12.
This vehicle-specific configuration transmits up to 1,910 Nm maximum engine torque. The low rotating mass and compact friction diameter support rapid rpm drop and build-up; a release force of 4,200 N ensures a clear pedal feel. The forged aluminum clutch cover (housing) combines high stiffness with minimal package size; pressure and intermediate plates made of high-strength steel provide launch and endurance durability for the Aston Martin Vulcan on track.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Technology
Technical data RCS 4/140:
-
Vehicle:
Aston Martin Vulcan V12 (2015-2016) - maximum engine torque [Nm] : 1,910
- release diameter [mm] : 38
- release force [N] : 4,200
- release travel [mm] : 5.0 +0.5
- mass (weight) [kg] : 3.64
- moment of inertia [kg·m²] : 0.011585
Clutch cover (housing)
The RCS 140 clutch cover is made of high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness with minimal package size. Its geometry promotes efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack's temperature window - tuned to the thermal loads of the Aston Martin Vulcan V12.
Friction lining - sintered metallic
Sintered metallic discs offer high temperature stability, consistent friction, and fade resistance - ideal for repeated launches, hard braking zones, and brief slipping in the pit lane. The 3.4 mm lining thickness provides a balanced character: more thermal reserve and service life than 2.6 mm, yet lower rotating mass and faster temperature reset than 5.2 mm.
Hub spline profile
Vehicle-specific hub spline profile: this RCS 4/140 S3.4 is supplied with the correctly matched hub spline for the Aston Martin Vulcan V12 (2015-2016) - precisely matched to the gearbox input shaft. This ensures highest fit accuracy, reliable torque transfer, and maximum durability for track use.
