Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS racing clutch
for Alpina B6 GT3 V8
sintered metallic 2.6 mm, rigid design
Vehicle-specific setup for the Alpina B6 GT3 V8 (model years 2009-2012): the three-disc SACHS RCS racing clutch with 2.6 mm sintered metallic lining combines high torque capacity with minimal rotating mass - ideal for GT3 cars with tight packaging and high thermal loads.
Three friction interfaces increase total transferable performance at identical clamp load and friction coefficient, while the thin 2.6 mm lining enables extremely crisp response and short shift windows. Perfect for sprint and qualifying runs, time-attack formats, and large-displacement V8 powertrains.
The sintered metallic friction material remains stable at high rpm and temperature within the relevant operating window, delivering a clearly defined, direct engagement. Compared with thicker linings, the 2.6 mm design reduces the moment of inertia of the entire clutch pack - the engine spins up more freely and the bite point remains precise and repeatable. At the same time, the 3-disc configuration spreads friction work across multiple contact surfaces, lowering the thermal load per area and improving durability under repeated launches.
This configuration achieves up to 2,497 Nm maximum engine torque, providing significant headroom for highly boosted and large-capacity GT engines. In combination with the stiff, weight-optimized RCS clutch cover (housing) and high-strength steel pressure and intermediate plates, the result is a robust, repeatable system engineered for uncompromising motorsport use.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Technical data RCS 3/200:
- Vehicle:
Alpina B6 GT3 V8 (2009-2012) - maximum engine torque [Nm] : 2,497
- release diameter [mm] : 49
- release force [N] : 3,700
- release travel [mm] : 5.0 +0.5
- mass (weight) [kg] : 4.02

Clutch cover (housing)
The SACHS RCS 200 clutch cover from ZF Motorsport is made of high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness with minimal weight. The housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack's temperature window - matched to the B6 GT3's packaging requirements.
An extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion, and delivers long service life in GT applications.
Friction lining - sintered metallic
The RCS 3/200 uses 2.6 mm sintered metallic linings that are directly sintered onto the carrier disc (no separate pads). This reduces part count and mass, increases stiffness of the friction pair, and minimizes lining compressibility - for a very precise bite point, short response times, and clearly defined engagement.
The thin lining lowers the rotating moment of inertia of the clutch pack; the engine revs more freely and load changes are implemented more spontaneously. Direct heat transfer into the carrier disc promotes rapid thermal stabilization and consistent performance over longer stints.
SACHS RCS hub
Vehicle-specific hub spline profile: the RCS 3/200 is supplied with the correctly matched hub spline profile for the Alpina B6 GT3 V8 - precisely matched to this model's gearbox input shaft. This ensures highest fit accuracy, reliable torque transfer, and maximum durability in motorsport. Standard configuration (unless otherwise specified): hub length long–medium–long.
