Designed to make a
difference

ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.

SACHS Motorsport Clutch
RCS 1/200 S7.8

Sintered metallic 7.8 mm, rigid design

The SACHS RCS 1/200 racing clutch from ZF Motorsport delivers high endurance load capacity, precise modulation and repeatable lap times. Its forged high-strength aluminum housing combines low weight with high stiffness and stable operating temperatures - ideal for endurance racing, rally and demanding track-day setups.

It uses a 7.8 mm sintered pad clutch disc with 200 mm diameter. The large friction area and generous wear reserve increase torque capacity and thermal stability, smooth out temperature peaks and keep the bite point precise over many race starts and long stints. This setup transmits up to 832 Nm of peak engine torque and enables reproducible, finely metered engagement under extreme load.

The pressure plate is supplied exclusively in high-strength steel. Compared with cast iron, steel withstands mechanical and thermal spikes far better and is fully start-proof - ideal for standing starts, intensive pit stop cycles and repeated full-load use.

Advantages

High wear volume

High temperature resistance

Long operational life

Less Mass

One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.

The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.

Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration

If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.

As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Technology

Technical data RCS 1/200:

  • Max engine torque [Nm] : 832
  • Release diameter [mm] : 49
  • Release load [N] : 3,700
  • Release travel [mm] : 5.0 +0.5
  • Mass (weight) [kg] : 3.15
  • Inertia [kgm2] : 0.02089

Clutch housing

The ZF Motorsport SACHS RCS 200 clutch housing is made from forged high-strength aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimum weight. Its specific geometry aids efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack's temperature window.

A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum surface coating. This full-coverage hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and increases service life.

Friction lining - sintered metallic

The sintered pad clutch disc of the SACHS RCS 1/200 uses 7.8 mm sintered metallic friction material. The increased lining thickness expands wear reserve and heat capacity of the friction system. This reduces local temperature spikes, mitigates thermal instability risks (fading, hot spots, warpage) and keeps friction levels stable over longer duty cycles.

Sintered metallic material delivers a very direct response: hard launches and a fast, clearly defined bite at race starts.

SACHS RCS hub

SACHS RCS 1/200 S7.8 racing clutches are available with different hub splines precisely matched to the gearbox input shaft. This ensures exact fit, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in hard motorsport use.

Hubs are also offered in various lengths (short, medium, long) to match package space and release travel. The modular ZF Motorsport RCS 200 system enables a tailored racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal load capacity and service life. Standard RCS 1/200 spec (unless otherwise stated): long-long hub length.

Installation instructions:

As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.

Required information:

When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
