Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS racing clutch
RCS 4/184 S2.6
Sintered metallic 2.6 mm, rigid configuration
The four-plate SACHS RCS 4/184 racing clutch with 2.6 mm sintered metallic lining combines maximum torque capacity with very low rotating mass. Four friction discs significantly increase transferable force at the same clamp load and friction level, while the low lining thickness enables an extremely direct response and short reaction times. Ideal for high-power touring cars and circuit/time-attack use where precise clutch modulation and repeatability are required.
The sintered metallic friction material remains stable at speed within the relevant operating window and delivers a clearly defined, fast engagement. The 2.6 mm specification reduces the inertia of the clutch pack - the engine revs more freely, the bite point stays precise and repeatable. At the same time, the four-plate configuration distributes the friction work across multiple contact surfaces, reducing specific surface pressure and smoothing temperature peaks.
This specification handles up to 2.616 Nm maximum engine torque and, together with a stiff cover (housing) plus pressure/intermediate plates made of high-strength steel, forms a durable, repeatable system for dedicated motorsport operation.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch cover (housing)
The ZF Motorsport SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover is made from high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimum weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the temperature window of the clutch pack.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion, and ensures long service life.
Clutch lining - sintered metallic
The RCS 4/184 uses fused-on 2.6 mm sintered metallic linings: the friction lining is bonded directly to the carrier plate (no pads). This reduces part count and mass, increases the stiffness of the friction pairing, and minimizes lining compressibility. The result is a very precise bite point, short response times, and a clearly defined engagement.
The low lining thickness reduces the rotating inertia of the clutch pack; the engine revs more freely and load changes are translated more spontaneously. Direct heat flow into the carrier plate allows friction heat to be dissipated quickly, improving repeatability during launch sequences. Combined with four friction plates, it yields high torque reserve at low specific surface pressure.
SACHS RCS hub
ZF Motorsport SACHS RCS 4/184 S2.6 racing clutches are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures highest fit accuracy, reliable torque transmission, and maximum durability in demanding motorsport use.
Hubs are also available in different length options (short, medium, long). This allows the clutch to be adapted to the available installation space and ensures correct actuation. The modular ZF Motorsport RCS 184 system thus enables a precisely matched racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal robustness, and service life. Standard configuration of the RCS 4/184 clutch (unless otherwise specified): hub length short-short-short-short.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
