Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Racing Clutch
RCS 1/184 S7.8
Sintered metallic 7,8 mm, rigid design
The single-plate SACHS RCS 1/184 S7.8 combines a compact 184 mm format with high thermal robustness - ideal for sprint, track days and classes with limited installation space. A package weight of only 2,32 kg keeps rotating mass low, improves engine spin-up and reduces drag torque - for agile response and precise modulation at the limit.
The 7,8 mm sintered metallic lining offers large wear reserve and an effective heat buffer. This smooths temperature peaks, stabilizes the pressure point over longer load cycles and ensures repeatable clutch engagement even at high disc temperatures. In this specification up to 385 Nm maximum engine torque is achievable.
A positive effect for vehicle setup: the low release load of only 2.400 N. This protects release bearing and hydraulics, allows lower pedal forces and supports fine modulation near the limit. The forged aluminum clutch cover combines low weight with high stiffness and aids heat dissipation. The high-strength steel pressure plate withstands mechanical and thermal peaks - built for consistent launches, durability and repeatable performance.

Advantages
High wear volume
High temperature resistance
Long operational life
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch Cover
The SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover from ZF Motorsport is made from high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimal weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the temperature window of the clutch pack.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and delivers long service life.
Clutch Lining - Sintered Metallic
7,8 mm sintered metallic pads increase lining mass and thermal capacity of the friction system. This lowers local hot spots, reduces fade and distortion risks and keeps the friction level stable over long stints. The result is a smoothly progressive yet well-defined clutch bite with high repeatability.
The characteristic supports hard launches, precise engagement at race starts and consistent shifts even at high disc temperatures.
SACHS RCS Hub
SACHS RCS 1/184 S7.8 racing clutches from ZF Motorsport are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures maximum fit accuracy, reliable torque transmission and maximum durability in hard racing use.
Hubs are also available in different length variants (medium, long). This allows optimal adaptation of the clutch to available space and ensures correct actuation. The modular RCS 184 system from ZF Motorsport enables a tailored racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal load capacity and service life. Standard configuration of the RCS 1/184 clutch (unless specified otherwise): hub length long.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
