Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Racing Clutch
RCS 1/184 S7.8
Sintered metallic 7,8 mm, rigid design
The single-plate SACHS RCS 1/184 S7.8 combines a compact 184 mm format with high thermal robustness - ideal for sprint, track days and classes with limited installation space. The low package weight of just 2,39 kg keeps rotating mass down, improves rev-up and reduces drag torque - for agile response and clean modulation at the limit.
The 7,8 mm sintered metallic pad lining offers a large wear reserve and an effective heat buffer. It smooths temperature spikes, stabilizes the bite point over long load cycles and ensures repeatable engagement even at high disc temperatures. In this configuration, up to 654 Nm maximum engine torque is achievable.
The forged aluminum clutch cover (housing) combines low weight with high stiffness and supports heat dissipation. The pressure plate made of high-strength steel withstands mechanical and thermal peaks - built for strong launches, durability and repeatable performance.

Advantages
High wear volume
High temperature resistance
Long operational life
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch Cover (Housing)
The ZF Motorsport SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover is made from high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimal weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack’s temperature window.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and ensures long service life.
Clutch Lining - Sintered Metallic
7,8 mm sintered pad linings increase lining mass and the friction system’s heat capacity. This reduces local hotspots, minimizes fade and warp risks, and keeps the friction coefficient stable over long stints. The result is a soft-onset yet clearly defined clutch engagement with high repeatability.
The characteristic supports hard launches, precise clutch take-up at race starts and consistent shifts even at high disc temperatures.
SACHS RCS Hub
ZF Motorsport’s SACHS RCS 1/184 S7.8 racing clutches are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures perfect fit, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in hard racing use.
In addition, the hubs are available in various length versions (short, medium, long). This allows the clutch to be optimally adapted to the available installation space and ensures correct actuation. The modular RCS 184 system from ZF Motorsport thus enables a tailored racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal load capacity and service life. Standard version of the RCS 1/184 clutch (unless otherwise specified): hub length long.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
