Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Racing Clutch
RCS 2/140 S5.2
Sintered pad 5.2 mm, rigid version
Twin-plate, 140 mm, 5.2 mm sintered pad: the SACHS RCS 2/140 S5.2 racing clutch focuses on compact stack height and low inertia for rapid rpm changes and short shift windows. This pays off on tight circuits and in touring car setups with limited packaging, proves temperature-stable in endurance scenarios, and delivers robust, easily modulatable torque transfer in rallycross/autocross.
The 5.2 mm sintered pads add high thermal capacity and broad wear reserve to the system. This smooths local hot spots, keeps the bite point consistent over long stints and ensures reproducible engagement at elevated disc temperatures. Versus 3.4 mm linings, 5.2 mm pads provide more thermal reserve and service life; compared with 2.6 mm over-sintered linings they run calmer, with a noticeably larger thermal buffer and a consistent pedal feel.
The twin-disc configuration splits friction work and temperature across two interfaces, increasing torque density with a shallow build. In this specification the RCS 2/140 S5.2 transmits up to 960 Nm maximum engine torque. A forged aluminium clutch cover (housing) ensures high stiffness at low mass, while pressure and intermediate plates in high-strength steel deliver launch strength, durability and consistent performance over full races.

Advantages
High wear volume
High temperature resistance
Long operational life
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

The Technology
Technical data RCS 3/140:
- Maximum engine torque [Nm] : 1.430
- Release diameter [mm] : 49 / 38
- Release force [N] : 4.900 / 4.200 (⌀ 38)
- Release travel [mm] : 4.0 +0.5 / 4.5 +0.5 (⌀ 38)
- Mass (weight) [kg] : 2.43 / 2.47 (⌀ 38)
- Moment of inertia [kgm2] : 0.007754 / 0.007752
Clutch cover (housing)
The RCS 140 housing is made from high-strength forged aluminium. Its geometry promotes heat dissipation and stabilises the clutch pack's temperature window; a hard, wear-resistant coating reduces friction and fit wear and increases service life.
Clutch lining - sintered pad 5.2 mm
5.2 mm sintered pads increase lining mass and thermal capacity. As a result, local hot spots are reduced, fading and distortion risks drop, and the friction coefficient remains stable over longer load cycles. The characteristic supports controlled launches, consistent shifts and a calm, predictable pedal even after hard stints. Quick comparison: 2.6 mm over-sintered - lowest inertia and very direct response; 3.4 mm - balanced compromise of agility and thermal buffer; 5.2 mm sintered pads - maximum thermal reserve and service life with slightly higher inertia.
SACHS RCS hub
The RCS 2/140 S5.2 is available with different hub splines precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. Available hub lengths (short, medium, long) allow optimal packaging and correct actuation. The modular RCS 140 system enables precise matching for performance, thermal robustness and service life. Standard version of the RCS 2/140 clutch (unless otherwise specified): long-long hub length.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
