Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.

FIA Formula 3 - Dallara F3 2019
Sintered Metallic Pads 5.2 mm - Vehicle-Specific For Dallara F3 2019
Compact, precise, durable: The SACHS RCS 2/140 S5.2 is optimized for the Dallara F3 2019 spec chassis (2019–2024). Its 140 mm format and low rotating mass support rapid rpm changes and short shift windows - ideal for the 3.4 L Mecachrome V6 naturally aspirated engine (~380 hp) and the Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox.
The 5.2 mm sintered metallic pads deliver high thermal capacity and wear reserve: a consistent bite point over long stints, reproducible take-up at elevated disc temperatures, and a calm, predictable pedal feel. Compared with thinner linings, the 5.2 mm design offers extra thermal headroom and service life - a plus on tracks with many launch and braking cycles.
The twin-disc configuration distributes friction work and temperature efficiently. A forged aluminum clutch cover (housing) provides high stiffness at low mass; pressure and intermediate plates made of high-strength steel ensure launch strength and endurance durability - precisely matched to FIA Formula 3 demands.

Advantages
High wear volume
High temperature resistance
Long operational life
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch Cover (Housing)
RCS 140 housing in high-strength forged aluminum. The geometry promotes heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack's temperature window; a wear-resistant hard coating reduces friction and fit wear and increases service life - suited to FIA F3 sprint and feature races.
Friction Lining
5.2 mm sintered metallic pads increase lining mass and thermal capacity. This lowers local hotspots, reduces fading/warpage risks, and keeps the friction coefficient stable over longer load cycles. Quick comparison: 2.6 mm (very agile, lowest rotating mass) - 3.4 mm (balanced) - 5.2 mm (maximum thermal reserve/longevity).
Hub Spline Profile
Vehicle-specific hub spline profile: For the Dallara F3 2019 the clutch is supplied with the correct spline, precisely matched to the Hewland transaxle gearbox input shaft. Result: maximum fit accuracy, reliable torque transfer, and durability. Hub lengths (short/medium/long) available for packaging optimization.
