Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS racing clutch
RCS 3/184 S2.6
Sintered metallic 2,6 mm, rigid design
The triple-plate SACHS RCS 3/184 racing clutch with 2,6 mm sintered metallic lining combines very high torque capacity with low rotating mass. Three friction discs increase the transmissible force significantly at identical clamp load and friction coefficient, while the thin lining enables a direct response and short reaction times. Ideal for high-power touring cars as well as circuit and time-attack use where precise engagement and repeatability are required.
The sintered metallic friction material runs stable at high rpm within the relevant operating window and ensures a clearly defined, fast engagement. The 2,6 mm layout reduces the clutch pack's rotational inertia - the engine revs more freely, the bite point remains precise and reproducible. At the same time, the triple-disc configuration spreads the friction work over multiple contact areas, reducing specific surface pressure and smoothing temperature peaks.
This setup achieves up to 1.154 Nm maximum engine torque and, in combination with the forged aluminum housing and high-strength steel pressure/intermediate plates, forms a robust, repeatable system for dedicated racing. The low release load of only 2.400 N reduces pedal effort, enables faster and more consistent shifts and improves modulation at the limit - for consistent performance over long stints.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch cover (housing)
The SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover by ZF Motorsport is made from high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimal weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack's temperature window.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and ensures long service life.
Friction lining - sintered metallic
The RCS 3/184 uses fused-on 2,6 mm sintered metallic linings: the friction lining is bonded directly to the carrier plate (no pads). This reduces parts count and mass, increases stiffness of the friction pair and minimizes lining compressibility. The result is a very precise bite point, short response times and clearly defined engagement.
The thin lining reduces the rotating inertia of the clutch pack; the engine revs more freely and load changes are executed more spontaneously. Direct heat transfer into the carrier plate removes friction heat quickly, improving repeatability in launch sequences. Combined with three friction discs this yields high torque reserve at low specific surface pressure.
SACHS RCS hub
SACHS RCS 3/184 S2.6 racing clutches from ZF Motorsport are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This guarantees perfect fit, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in hard racing use.
Hubs are also available in various length options (short, medium, long). This allows the clutch to be adapted to the available packaging and ensures correct actuation. The modular ZF Motorsport RCS 184 system thus enables a tailored racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal stability and service life. Standard configuration of the RCS 3/184 clutch (unless otherwise specified): hub length long–medium–long.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
