Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Racing Clutch
RCS 2/184 S7.8
Sintered metallic 7.8 mm, rigid hub
The twin-plate SACHS RCS 2/184 racing clutch from ZF Motorsport delivers high endurance capability, precise modulation and consistent lap times. The forged aluminum clutch cover combines low mass with high stiffness and controlled heat management - ideal for endurance racing, rally and demanding track-day setups.
The 184 mm diameter strikes the sweet spot between compact packaging, low rotating inertia and sufficient friction area for stable temperatures. In combination with 7.8 mm sintered metallic pads, you get a broad wear reserve and an effective thermal buffer - the bite point stays precise over many race starts and long stints, temperature peaks are smoothed and engagement remains finely controllable. The sintered linings maintain grip and fade resistance at elevated disc temperatures, increase torque capacity and extend service intervals. This configuration transmits up to 1,308 Nm maximum engine torque.
Pressure and intermediate plates are supplied exclusively in high-strength steel. Compared to cast iron, steel resists mechanical and thermal spikes far better and is fully launch-proof - ideal for standing starts, intensive pit stop cycles and repeated full-load operation.

Advantages
High wear volume
High temperature resistance
Long operational life
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Technology
Technical data RCS 2/184:
- Maximum engine torque [Nm] : 1,308
- Release diameter [mm] : 49 / 44
- Release load [N] : 4,300 / 3,900 (⌀ 44)
- Release travel [mm] : 5.0 +0.5
- Mass (weight) [kg] : 3.49 / 3.50 (⌀ 44)
- Rotational inertia [kgm2] : 0.019852 / 0.01985 (⌀ 44)
Clutch cover (housing)
The ZF Motorsport SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover is made from high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness at minimum weight. The specific housing geometry promotes efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the temperature window of the clutch pack.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminum hard-coating. This full-surface treatment reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and ensures long service life.
Friction lining - sintered metallic
The SACHS RCS 2/184 twin-plate uses sintered metallic friction material with 7.8 mm pad thickness. The increased lining thickness broadens wear capacity and thermal mass. This lowers local temperature peaks, reduces the risk of thermal instability (fading, hot spots, warping) and keeps the friction coefficient stable over longer load cycles.
Sintered metallic linings provide a very direct response: hard launches and fast, clearly defined engagement at race start.
SACHS RCS hub
The SACHS RCS 2/184 S7.8 racing clutches from ZF Motorsport are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures perfect fit, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in tough motorsport use.
Hubs are also offered in various length options (short, medium, long). This allows optimal adaptation to the available installation space and correct actuation. The modular ZF Motorsport RCS 184 system enables a racing clutch tailored to the application with maximum performance, thermal stability and service life. Standard specification of the RCS 2/184 clutch (unless otherwise stated): hub length long-long.
Scope of delivery

Quality Made in Germany
ZF Race Engineering has been among the technology leaders in motorsport for years. The combined know-how from top-level racing flows directly into the development of RCS racing clutches. State-of-the-art manufacturing methods, the highest quality standards and motorsport technologies make ZF Motorsport clutches the first choice for maximum performance and reliability - on circuits as well as in rallying, touring and endurance racing.
Applications
CIRCUIT / TOURING CARS
Super GT, ELMS,
DTM, STCC, NLS, TCR, GT World Challenge etc.
ENDURANCE
24-hour series,
GT World Challenge Europe, WEC, IMSA, Asian Le Mans Series etc.
RALLYCROSS/AUTOCROSS
World RX
European Rallycross Championship, CEAX, SCCA Solo etc.

Installation instructions:
As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.
Required information:
When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“. If you have any questions about the product, please do not hesitate to contact us via E-Mail or by telephone on +49 (0)40 / 3999 211.
