Designed to make a
difference

ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.

SACHS Racing Clutch
RCS 1/184 S2.6

Sintered metallic 2,6 mm, rigid version

The SACHS RCS 1/184 S2.6 is the single-plate racing clutch for maximum agility: minimal rotating mass, razor-sharp response and a clearly defined clutch engagement. The 184-mm format keeps overall height compact and drag torque low - ideal for lightweight cars, slalom, hill climb and sprint-focused circuit setups.

The 2,6-mm sintered metallic lining is directly sintered onto the carrier plate. This reduces part count and compressibility, increases the stiffness of the friction pair and speeds up heat dissipation. Result: fast rpm matching, repeatable bite point and consistent pedal feel even under high thermal load - with up to 385 Nm maximum engine torque.

A key advantage is the low release load of just 2,400 N: this reduces pedal effort, enables faster and more consistent shifts and improves modulation at the limit - for consistent performance and uncompromising motorsport use.

Advantages

Light

low clutch height

Low mass and inertia

Less Mass

One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.

The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.

Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration

If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.

As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

The Technology

Technical data RCS 1/184:

  • Maximum engine torque [Nm] : 385
  • Release diameter [mm] : 49
  • Release load [N] : 2.400
  • Release travel [mm] : 5.0 +0.5
  • Mass (weight) [kg] : 2.20
  • Moment of inertia [kgm2] : 0.01255

Clutch cover (housing)

The SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover from ZF Motorsport is made from high-strength forged aluminium and is designed for maximum stiffness at minimal weight. The specific housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilises the operating temperature window of the clutch pack.

A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant, patented aluminium coating. This full-surface hard coating reduces friction and fit wear, protects against corrosion and ensures high service life.

Clutch lining - sintered metallic

The RCS 1/184 uses 2,6-mm sintered metallic linings directly sintered onto the carrier plate: the friction lining is bonded to the carrier (no pads). This reduces part count and mass, increases the stiffness of the friction pair and minimises lining compressibility. The result is a very precise bite point, short response times and a clearly defined clutch engagement.

The low lining thickness reduces the rotating moment of inertia of the clutch pack; the engine revs more freely and load changes are implemented more spontaneously. Direct heat transfer into the carrier plate quickly dissipates friction heat, improving repeatability during launch sequences.

SACHS RCS hub

The SACHS RCS 1/184 S2.6 racing clutches from ZF Motorsport are available with different hub profiles precisely matched to the respective gearbox input shaft. This ensures highest fit accuracy, reliable torque transfer and maximum durability in demanding motorsport use.

In addition, hubs are available in different length variants (short, medium, long). This allows optimal adaptation of the clutch to the available installation space and ensures correct actuation. The modular RCS 184 system from ZF Motorsport enables an individually tuned racing clutch with maximum performance, thermal robustness and service life. Standard configuration of the RCS 1/184 clutch (unless otherwise specified): hub length Long.

Installation instructions:

As SACHS RCS clutches have not been developed specifically for a vehicle, but are vehicle-independent, the vehicle must be adapted to the clutch (see PDF documents above). The contour of the flywheel, the position, the travel and the shape of the release mechanism as well as the maximum available installation space must be checked and adapted if necessary.

Required information:

When ordering your SACHS RCS clutch, the required profile of the transmission input shaft must be specified. The different profiles offered are listed under „hub profile“.
