SACHS RCS 184 Clutch Housing
Forged clutch cover for modular SACHS RCS 184 racing clutches
Compact, lightweight and highly durable: the SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover (housing) is the central support structure of ZF Motorsport’s modular Racing Clutch System and has been developed for professional use in high-performance racing clutches.
The RCS 184 version combines a compact design with high housing stiffness, precise component guidance and robust performance at high engine speeds, during fast shifts and under repeated thermal load in racing.

Versions
System: SACHS RCS 184 multi-plate racing clutch
Configuration: for 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-plate versions
Release diameter: 44 mm and 49 mm
Friction materials: carbon, sintered metallic and organic friction linings
Note: the clutch cover (housing) must be combined with approved RCS 184 pressure plates, intermediate plates and clutch discs specific to the series. Select according to the number of plates, release diameter, friction material and application profile.
Benefits
Compact 184 mm design for lightweight, free-revving racing clutches
Available for 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-plate clutches in the modular SACHS RCS system
44 mm and 49 mm release diameters for different actuation concepts
High-strength housing structure for precise guidance of pressure plate, intermediate plates and clutch discs
Low moment of inertia for spontaneous response and fast gear changes
Supports precisely defined clamp load for repeatable torque transmission
Motorsport-specific geometry for efficient heat dissipation and stable performance in racing use

Technology
RCS 184 Clutch Housing
Function: The clutch cover (housing) accommodates the pressure plate, intermediate plates and clutch discs, guides the components precisely and transmits torque within the modular RCS system. The high housing stiffness supports defined modulation, stable component positioning and reproducible shifts.
Design: High-strength aluminium with series-specific RCS 184 geometry. The compact design reduces rotating mass and moment of inertia and enables a torsionally stiff construction for demanding motorsport applications.
Clamp load: In combination with the pressure plate, diaphragm spring, intermediate plates and clutch discs, the clutch housing contributes to precisely defined clamp load. This supports repeatable torque transmission and consistent engagement behaviour in motorsport operation.
Release system: The RCS 184 version is available for release diameters of 44 mm and 49 mm. This allows the clutch housing to be configured to suit the respective release bearing, concentric slave cylinder and actuation system.
Thermal management: The special housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilises the temperature window of the clutch pack – particularly important with short shift windows, high engine speeds and repeated thermal load.
Installation notes
Installation & flywheel
Flywheel contour: The flywheel contour must be checked when using the SACHS RCS 184 racing clutch. Precise machining of the flywheel is required for clutch function, runout and long-term performance.
Fastening: M8 screws of at least property class 10.9 with internal hexagon and washers are recommended for fastening the clutch. The tightening torque is 25 Nm.
Service inspection: Check housing guides, contact surfaces, coating and fits regularly. In the event of wear, damage or impermissible play, assess adjacent components together to ensure clamp load, torque transmission and shift precision over the long term.
