Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS racing clutch
BMW M3 GT4 E92
RCS 3/184 sintered metallic 2.6 mm
Developed for the BMW M3 GT4 (E92): the triple-disc SACHS RCS 3/184 S2.6 delivers high torque reserves with low rotating mass - exactly what a GT4 touring car needs on circuit. Three friction discs significantly increase transferable force at the same pressure plate load and friction level, while the 2.6 mm setup provides direct response, short rev-matching, and precise modulation for launches, upshifts, and corner exits.
The 2.6 mm sintered metallic lining is directly sintered onto the carrier disc. This reduces part count and compressibility, increases stiffness of the friction pair, and improves heat dissipation. The triple-disc configuration spreads the friction work across multiple contact surfaces - specific surface pressure drops and temperature peaks are smoothed. Result: a consistent bite point, clean pedal feel, and repeatable performance over full stints - ideal for GT4 racing and endurance runs.
In this specification, up to 1,962 Nm maximum engine torque is achievable. The forged aluminum clutch cover (housing) combines high stiffness with low mass; high-strength steel pressure and intermediate plates ensure launch durability and thermal stability. The outcome is a robust, service-friendly system for the BMW M3 GT4 - designed for consistent lap times and reliable finishes.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

Clutch cover (housing)
The SACHS RCS 184 clutch cover from ZF Motorsport is made from high-strength forged aluminum and engineered for maximum stiffness with minimum mass. The housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilizes the clutch pack temperature window.
A key feature is the extremely wear-resistant patented aluminum hard coating. This full-surface treatment reduces sliding and fit wear, protects against corrosion, and delivers long service life.
Friction lining
The RCS 3/184 uses 2.6 mm sintered metallic linings that are directly sintered to the carrier discs (no pads). This lowers part count and mass, increases the stiffness of the friction pair, and minimizes lining compressibility. The result is a very precise bite point, short response times, and a clearly defined clutch engagement.
The low lining thickness reduces the rotating moment of inertia of the clutch pack - the M3 GT4 engine spins up more freely and load changes are implemented more spontaneously. Direct heat flow into the carrier disc accelerates heat rejection, improving repeatability during launch sequences. Combined with three discs, you gain high torque reserve at low specific surface pressure.
Hub spline profile
The SACHS RCS 3/184 S2.6 racing clutch for the BMW M3 GT4 is precisely matched to the gearbox input shaft. This ensures exact fit, secure torque transfer, and maximum durability in harsh racing use. Supplied with hub profile code [804], hub spline 26 × 3,093, hub length long-medium-long.
