The Audi A4 B5 was the first model under the new A4 name in 1994, setting new standards in engine design with the innovative five-valve-per-cylinder technology in the 1.8T. The quattro version of the 1.8T combined the revolutionary five-valve technology with three intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder with permanent all-wheel drive. On the race track, the A4 B5 dominated touring car racing so thoroughly that AWD was subsequently banned — in seven countries, Audi won all seven championships in 1996.
