The BMW F3x range (3 Series/4 Series from 2011) set new efficiency standards in the premium segment with the switch to exclusively turbocharged engines. This engine variant benefited in the F3x generation from BMW's advanced turbo technology and the balanced chassis. The four-cylinder turbo engines in the F3x generation delivered performance on par with previous six-cylinders thanks to advanced turbocharging — at significantly lower fuel consumption.
