The Audi A4 B5 replaced the Audi 80 in 1994 as the first model to carry the A4 name, built on the VW B5 platform (PL45). The S4 B5 with its 2.7-litre V6 biturbo producing 265 PS was the sporting flagship of the A4 saloon range and shared its engine architecture with the later RS4. The revolutionary five-valve-per-cylinder technology in the 1.8T, with three intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder, was a unique technical feature of the B5 generation.
