As successor to the Audi 80, the A4 B5 introduced the A4 name from 1994 and offered a broad engine range on the VW B5 platform. The 2.4-litre V6 with 120-121 kW served as the mid-range V6, offering a balanced combination of performance and refinement. On the race track, the A4 B5 made history: in 1996, Frank Biela won the BTCC Drivers' Championship, Audi won seven national touring car championships worldwide, ultimately forcing AWD to be banned from touring car racing.
