With its fully galvanized body and innovative Procon-ten safety system, the Audi 80/90 B3 set new standards in the mid-size class from 1986 — it was the first Audi 80 generation with its own independent platform, separate from the VW Passat. The 2.0-litre 16V with 137 PS and four-valve technology was the most powerful naturally aspirated four-cylinder in the 80 B3. The Procon-ten system pulled the steering wheel away from the driver in a frontal impact while simultaneously tensioning the seatbelts — a unique safety solution before airbags became widespread.
