The BMW F3x range (3 Series/4 Series from 2011) set new efficiency standards in the premium segment with the switch to exclusively turbocharged engines. The 328i with the N20 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and 245 PS proved that a turbo four could still carry the BMW character. The four-cylinder turbo engines in the F3x generation delivered performance on par with previous six-cylinders thanks to advanced turbocharging — at significantly lower fuel consumption.
