The Audi A4 B7 from 2004 was a deeply revised version of the B6 with new engines and refined chassis tuning. The 3.2-litre V6 FSI quattro with 188 kW (256 PS) and petrol direct injection was the most powerful regular naturally aspirated variant in the B7. The RS4 B7 with its high-revving 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 420 PS at 7,800 rpm was one of the last great NA V8s in a sports saloon.
