As successor to the Audi 80, the A4 B5 introduced the A4 name from 1994 and offered a broad engine range on the VW B5 platform. With 142 kW (193 PS) from the 30-valve V6, the 2.8 was the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the regular B5 range, offering effortless pulling power. On the race track, the A4 B5 made history: in 1996, Frank Biela won the BTCC Drivers' Championship, Audi won seven national touring car championships worldwide, ultimately forcing AWD to be banned from touring car racing.
