The Audi A4 B6 from 2000 was an entirely new design on the PL46 platform, not a facelift of the B5 — Audi made a clean break in both technology and design. The S4 B6 received an all-aluminium 4.2-litre V8 producing 344 PS instead of its predecessor's biturbo V6 — an engine previously reserved for the A6 and A8. Unlike its predecessor and successor, there was no RS4 on the B6 platform, making the S4 the undisputed flagship.
