The Audi A4 B7 from 2004, as a comprehensively revised B6, also brought a generational change in the diesel segment — the new 2.0 TDI replaced the proven 1.9 TDI as the main diesel engine. The new 2.0 TDI with 93-125 kW replaced the outgoing 1.9 TDI and offered significantly more refined running thanks to common-rail injection. On the race track, the B7 generation in DTM form was one of the most successful touring cars of the 2000s, with titles in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011.
