From 1986, the Audi 80/90 B3 was the first Audi 80 generation with an independent platform separate from the VW Passat, featuring a fully galvanized body and the innovative Procon-ten safety system. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder quattro offered secure traction with permanent all-wheel drive combined with the fully galvanized B3 body. The permanent quattro all-wheel drive with Torsen centre differential made even the compact 80/90 B3 a confident all-weather vehicle.
