The BMW X1 debuted in 2009 as the E84 with classic rear-wheel drive based on the 3 Series platform, before the F48 from 2015 switched to the front-wheel drive UKL platform. The xDrive 18d combined an economical diesel with xDrive all-wheel drive — the most efficient AWD option in the X1 range. The BMW X2 (F39) joined the range from 2017 as a sporty-dynamic crossover variant with a coupé-like roofline.
