The BMW 3 Series (E46) was available from 1998 to 2006 as saloon, coupé, convertible, Touring and Compact, being the last 3 Series generation with hydraulic power steering. This engine variant benefited in the E46 from the last BMW generation with hydraulic power steering — a pure driving experience. Even with four-cylinder engines, the E46 benefited from its mature platform and direct steering feel that made it the reference vehicle in its class.
