The BMW 5 Series F10/F11 (2010–2016) returned to a more conservative design after the polarising E60, focusing on lightweight construction with aluminium chassis components. This engine variant of the F10/G30 benefited from BMW's EfficientDynamics strategy with aluminium lightweight construction and state-of-the-art powertrain technology. The G30/G31 from 2016 continued this philosophy with even more lightweight technology and cutting-edge driver assistance.
