The BMW 3 Series/4 Series F3x generation marked the beginning of BMW's all-turbo era from 2011 and introduced the 4 Series as a standalone coupé/convertible range for the first time. The M3 (F80) and M4 (F82/F83) with the S55 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six producing 431 PS marked the first turbocharged M3/M4 — with the M4's signature carbon roof. By splitting into the 3 Series (saloon/Touring/GT) and 4 Series (coupé/convertible/Gran Coupé), BMW expanded the model range and created new opportunities for individualisation.
