The Audi A6 C5 was developed under Peter Schreyer's design leadership and set new standards in the executive segment from 1997 with its clean lines. The S6 C5 with its 4.2-litre V8 producing 340 PS was the pinnacle of the standard A6 range — the even more powerful RS6 with its 4.2-litre V8 biturbo producing 450 PS became the embodiment of the Audi sports sedan. The Allroad quattro with adaptive air suspension and raised ride height established an entirely new vehicle category as an alternative to the traditional SUV.
