The Audi 80 B4 set new standards in the mid-size segment in 1991 with its fully galvanized body and an unprecedented 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. The fuel-injected 1.6 E variant delivered 101 PS thanks to Motronic injection, offering significantly better power delivery than the base version with moderate fuel consumption. The innovative Procon-ten safety system in early models pulled the steering wheel away from the driver in a frontal impact while simultaneously tensioning the seatbelts — a unique solution before airbags became widespread.
