The Audi A4 B5 replaced the Audi 80 in 1994 as the first model with the A4 designation, offering compelling powertrains also in the diesel segment. The B5 shared the PL45 platform with the VW Passat B5, though Audi used a longitudinal engine layout with its own independent front axle design.
