Designed to make a
difference
ZF Race Engineering's SACHS motorsport clutches have stood for top-tier quality in international racing for decades. The ambition: continuous improvement and the drive to keep pushing the limits. From the lightest clutch used in Formula 1 to proven twin-plate and multi-plate systems in WRC, DTM, NASCAR, Le Mans and the Dakar Rally - ZF Motorsport technology is a core component of many winning cars worldwide.
SACHS Motorsport Racing Clutch
for Ferrari 296 GT3
RCS 4/140 S3.4 sintered metallic 3.4 mm
Compact, free-revving, high-load: the four-plate SACHS RCS 4/140 S3.4 uses the 140 mm friction diameter for a significantly reduced moment of inertia and short shift windows. This accelerates engine speed build-up and enables precise, repeatable modulation - exactly matched to the Ferrari 296 GT3 with tight installation space.
The 3.4 mm sintered metallic lining hits the sweet spot: more heat capacity and wear reserve than 2.6 mm designs, yet more agile with faster temperature stabilisation than 5.2 mm linings. The bite point remains stable over long stints; engagement is clean and consistent - even at high disc temperatures in the 296 GT3.
This configuration transmits up to 1.910 Nm maximum engine torque. A release force of 4.200 N provides clear actuation feel; the low rotating mass and compact friction diameter promote rapid drop and rise in rpm as well as defined plate lift for clean separation. The forged aluminium clutch cover (housing) combines high stiffness with compact packaging; pressure and intermediate plates made of high-strength steel ensure launch and endurance durability in the Ferrari 296 GT3.

Advantages
Light
low clutch height
Low mass and inertia
Less Mass
One of the greatest strengths of the RCS sintered clutch is its low mass and the associated low mass inertia.
The SACHS RCS clutches have been designed for racing with the objective that torque is transmitted rapidly and directly from the engine to the gearbox.
Reducing the weight of the crankshaft drive to lower the moment of inertia will considerably increase vehicle acceleration performance in the lower gears.

Faster Acceleration
If the clutch itself has a moment of inertia (MoI) of 0.061 kgm2, the MoI on the drive wheel will be 180 times higher (in first gear) for a reduction in transmission of 13.4:1 (13.42). If we convert this value into vehicle mass, we arrive around 145 kg of additional weight to be accelerated in first gear.
As a result of the low moment of inertia of the SACHS RCS clutch, shifting times are considerably reduced and the vehicle accelerates much faster.

The Technology
Technical Data RCS 4/140:
- Maximum engine torque [Nm] : 1.910
- Release diameter [mm] : 38
- Release force [N] : 4.200
- Release travel [mm] : 5.0 +0.5
- Mass (weight) [kg] : 3.64
- Moment of inertia [kgm2] : 0.011585
Clutch cover (housing)
The RCS 140 clutch cover is made of high-strength forged aluminium and engineered for maximum stiffness with minimal packaging space. The housing geometry supports efficient heat dissipation and stabilises the clutch pack's temperature window in the Ferrari 296 GT3. A wear-resistant hard coating reduces friction and fit wear and increases service life.
Clutch lining - sintered metallic
Sintered metallic discs provide high temperature capability, stable friction and fade resistance - ideal for high-load operation in the Ferrari 296 GT3, especially during repeated launches and brief slip in the pit lane. The 3.4 mm friction thickness delivers a balanced character: more thermal reserve and life than 2.6 mm, yet faster temperature reset and lower rotating mass than 5.2 mm. This ensures repeatable launches and reliable pit exits.
Hub profile
The RCS 4/140 S3.4 clutch is delivered with the matching hub spline for the Ferrari 296 GT3 gearbox input shaft. High fit accuracy ensures reliable torque transfer and durability.
